Shaping a community through retail and restaurant retail estate

Efficiency. It’s an obsession.  I am always looking for ways to be more efficient in my role as a wife and mother, but also in implementing systems at terra alma that enable us to collaborate and foster growth.

I recently read an article about household management and the need that families and young adults have across the board to save time at home. From cooking to cleaning and household chores, we all want to save time. Hello Fresh and Blue Apron proved this with pre-packaged meals that portioned ingredients, pre cut items and only required a quick pop on the stove or in the oven. During COVID, we saw many restaurant package family meals that either required no effort of the home chefs or allowed kids to make their own tacos.

How does all of the above play into the world of retail real estate you ask? The next generation of mixed use and thoughtful developments need to offer a means to make our lives easier.

The 15 minute city is one way of doing this: clustering all your needs within a fifteen minute walk. A grocer, dentist, restaurants, entertainment and access to  childcare and pet care, ways to make us more efficient, allowing us to use our time as we choose to versus the chores and household maintenance that detracts us from leisure time.

Employers of tomorrow will not only be offering outdoor work spaces (yes, a desk and chair outside) and flexible working hours, they will be helping their employees secure child care providers, increase access for well-being by offering yoga and meditation classes, dog grooming and perhaps a dog park on site as well as cultivating a culture that encourages travel.

If travel via air is not something a teammate or employee wants, they can opt into a vacation close to home. terra alma recently aided Passport Springs in successfully identifying an 11 acre parcel in Forsyth County for a hot springs and spa concept.

When efficiency is the goal, mixed-use developments are key; which is why we love being a part of so many. Check out our website to learn more about the mixed-use developments we’ve been fortunate to be a part of.
